  Introduction

The Devonian rocks that outcrop in the Ardennes (Belgium, Luxembourg, France) were deposited in the Rhenohercynian Sea, on the southern margins of the Old Red Continent (Euramerica; Laurussia). Although being exceeded in fame by trilobites from the German Eifel ('Trilobitenfelder' of Gees) and French Ardennes ('Mur des douaniers' of Vireux-Molhain), the Belgian Devonian trilobite fauna appears to be highly diversive.

Botassart
Figure 1. <<Le Tombeau du Géant>> (the giant's grave) near Botassart is part of a beautiful panorama in southern Belgium. According to an ancient legend, a giant was slain by a hundred men and burried under this hill.

Still, trilobites from the Belgian Devonian are not as well documented as their German neighbours. This web site, which was initially launched in the spring of 2003 as the Trilobite Observer, is an account of my observations in the Ardennes and provides a continuously updated summary of the ongoing investigations, mainly on Belgian Devonian trilobites.
