Family Scutelluidae
Subfamilies: Scutelluinae
Genera: Goldius [=Calycoscutellum, Brontes, Bronteus], Scabriscutellum, Scutellum, Septimopeltis, Thysanopeltella.
Scutelluidae encompasses comparatively rare trilobites in the Ardennes even though they are geographically and stratigraphically widely spread. The oldest representatives here come from the Pragian or lowermost Emsian in SE Belgium. These specimens are too poorly preserved to be identified with certainty but they may belong to Microscutellum, Poroscutellum, or a morphologically similar genus.
In the Eifelian, mostly members of Goldius (formerly known as Calycoscutellum) are found. One rare species of Scutellum is known from the middle Eifelian which is probably closely related to Scutellum geesense. During the Givetian scutelluids are represented by Goldius. In the Frasnian, scutelluids are known from several species which appear to belong to Scutellum.
